I needed healing these days, so I took a day trip to Yanggu, Gangwon-do on a Romance Tour package. In fact, I didn't even know where Yanggu was, but when I went there this time, I thought, "This is a real hidden gem!"

First course: DMZ Punch Bowl Trail

'Punch Bowl' in Yanggu Haean-myeon, isn't the name so unique? This is a basin surrounded by mountains on all sides, and during the Korean War, an American war correspondent named it "This looks just like a punch bowl!"

We walked the 'DMZ Punch Bowl Trail', and this is said to be one of the 100 most famous national forests in Korea! Along the road, spring wildflowers like deer ears, violets, and irises were blooming simply, and the air was clear and there were few people, so there was no special healing throughout the walk 🍃

It’s not just that nature is pretty, but this is a forest path that remembers the history of division and peace, so my heart became calm as I walked.

Stop for a moment, at Park Soo-geun’s hometown

And the Park Soo-geun Art Museum we stopped by along the way! Do you know Park Soo-geun? The artist who painted the famous <Laundry Place> painting! Yanggu is his hometown.

The building that seemed to be placed in nature fit so well, and the exhibition was simple yet warm. When I saw his paintings that depict the lives of the common people as solid as granite, I felt a pang and a sense of heaviness for no reason.

Do you feel like you’ve properly “recharged your emotions” while traveling?

After walking, a warm market trip! Yanggu Central Market

The last course was Yanggu Central Market! It is the only permanent market in Yanggu, and a 5-day market is held every 5th and 10th of the month.

It wasn't a market day, but thanks to that, I was able to look around more leisurely. I walked slowly through the alleys of the market, looked at stores selling potato cakes and acorn jelly, and had fun looking at old store signs.

It wasn't as lively, but maybe because of that quiet feeling, I felt more attached to the city of Yanggu? The market merchants quietly did their business and said a few words, and those small gestures were so warm.

Let's go together next time!

To be honest, there isn't much information about Yanggu when you search for it, and it doesn't show up much on SNS. But when I went there, there were few people, the nature was deep, and the emotions were overwhelming. Healing while walking, filling my emotions at the art gallery, and even eating at the market were perfect!

📸 I took a bunch of pictures so I'll show you soon~ Let's walk together next time! I really recommend it 💛
