영월여행 고씨굴, 4억 년 된 동굴 속으로 떠나자! Yeongwol Travel Gossigul, let’s go inside a 400 million year old cave!

야, 우리 동굴 탐험 한 번 가볼래? 영월에 있는 고씨굴(高氏窟)은 무려 4억 년 전에 만들어진 총길이 약 6.3km의 석회암 동굴이야. 그냥 동굴이 아니라 우리나라에서 제일 크고 깊은 동굴 중 하나! 안에 들어가 보면 마치 판타지 영화 속에 들어온 느낌이야. 

Hey, do you want to go cave exploring? Gossigul (高氏窟) in Yeongwol is a limestone cave that was formed 400 million years ago and is approximately 6.3km long. It’s not just any cave, it’s one of the largest and deepest caves in Korea! When you go inside, it feels like you’ve entered a fantasy movie.

 

 

1969년 6월 4일에 천연기념물 제219호로 지정되었고 국가로부터 보호를 받고 있는 학술적, 자연유산적 가치가 뛰어난 동굴이며, 1974년 5월 15일에 일반인들에게 공개되어 왕복 1.2km를 우리들도 들어가볼 수 있게 되었대.

It was designated as Natural Monument No. 219 on June 4, 1969 and is protected by the state. It has outstanding academic and natural heritage value. On May 15, 1974, it was opened to the public, so we could go inside and explore the 1.2km round trip.

 

 

 

🌿 고씨굴, 이름에 숨겨진 이야기 Gossigul, the story behind its name

임진왜란 당시 고씨가족이 피난하였던 곳이라 하여 사람들이 이 동굴을 '고씨가 숨어 살던 굴'이라고 부르기 시작한 거지. 

People started calling this cave the “Goshi Cave” because it was where the Go family took refuge during the Imjin War.

 

 

근데 그냥 전설만 있는 게 아니라, 여기서 곰, 사슴, 호랑이 같은 동물 화석도 발견됐대! 즉, 인간뿐만 아니라 오랜 옛날 동물들도 여기를 은신처로 썼다는 거지.

But it’s not just a legend. Fossils of animals like bears, deer, and tigers have also been discovered here! That is, not only humans, but also animals from long ago used this place as a hiding place.

동굴 안에 들어가면 신기한 바위들이 엄청 많은데, 이름도 재밌어!

📍 종유관, 종유석, 석순, 석주: 석회암 동굴의 대표적인 생성물들이 다양하게 분포하고 있고 동굴산호, 유석, 동굴진주, 피솔라이트, 동굴방패, 곡석, 월유,기형종유석도 관찰할 수 있지

📍Stalactites, stalagmites, and stalagmites: The representative formations of limestone caves are distributed in various ways, and you can also observe cave corals, flowstones, cave pearls, pisolites, cave shields, curved stones, moon stalactites, and deformed stalactites.

 

 

📍  가뭄 시기가 아니라면 동굴 내부의 지하수와 연못, 폭포를 볼 수도 있지.

📍If it is not a drought season, you can also see groundwater, ponds, and waterfalls inside the cave.

 

 

📍고씨굴은 여러 층으로 이루어진 다층 구조를 보이며, 하층에는 하천이 흐르고 있대.

여기 조명이 켜져 있어서 더 신비로워 보이는데, 종유석이 수천 년 동안 물방울이 떨어지면서 만들어진 거라고 하더라. 진짜 자연의 신비 그 자체!

The lights are on here, so it looks even more mysterious, and they say the stalactites were formed by water drops falling over thousands of years. It’s truly a mystery of nature itself!

1️⃣ 김삿갓 유적지

방랑 시인 김삿갓 알지? 그 사람이 살았던 곳인데, 분위기가 엄청 고즈넉하고 좋아. 산책하면서 시 한 편 읊어볼까? 

1️⃣ Kim Satgat Historic Site Do you know the wandering poet Kim Satgat? This is where he lived, and the atmosphere is very peaceful and nice. How about reciting a poem while taking a walk?

 

2️⃣ 청령포

단종이 유배됐던 곳인데, 삼면이 강으로 둘러싸여 있어서 자연 요새 느낌이야. 배 타고 들어가야 해서 더 운치 있고, 뭔가 분위기 있어.

3️⃣ 한반도 지형 (선암마을 전망대)

강이 한반도 모양으로 휘어져서 한눈에 보면 진짜 우리나라 지도 같아! 사진 찍기 딱 좋은 곳. 드론 있으면 영상 찍어도 끝내줄 듯.

4️⃣ 별마로 천문대

낮에만 가봤는데 밤에 가면 완전 멋진 우주를 만날 수 있대. 별 엄청 많이 보이고, 망원경으로도 볼 수 있음! 데이트 코스로도 강추.

4️⃣ Byeolmaro Observatory I have only been there during the day, but if you go at night, you can see a really beautiful universe. You can see a lot of stars, and you can see them with a telescope! I highly recommend it as a date course.

 

5️⃣ 영월 장릉

단종의 무덤인데, 역사 좋아하면 가볼 만해. 근데 그냥 걸어 다니기만 해도 공원 느낌 나고 좋아서 힐링하기 괜찮아.

5️⃣ Yeongwol Jangneung This is King Danjong's tomb, and if you like history, it is worth a visit. But if you just walk around, it feels like a park, so it is good for healing.

 

6️⃣ 동강 래프팅 & 어라연 계곡

시원한 물에서 노는 거 좋아하면 래프팅도 추천! 아니면 그냥 계곡에서 발 담그고 멍 때리는 것도 개꿀.

6️⃣ Donggang Rafting & Eorayeon Valley If you like playing in cool water, I recommend rafting! Or just soaking your feet in the valley and spacing out is also really cool.

 

7️⃣ 선돌

높이 70m짜리 바위가 하늘을 향해 서 있어서 진짜 장관이야. 사진 찍으면 개간지. 배경으로 찍으면 프로필 사진 업그레이드 가능.

7️⃣ Seondol The 70m high rock stands tall against the sky, making it truly spectacular. It's so cool to take a picture of. If you take a picture of it as a background, you can upgrade your profile picture.

 

📌 꿀팁! Tip!
동굴 안은 한여름에도 온도가 15~18도밖에 안 돼서 엄청 서늘해! 그래서 긴팔 챙기는 게 필수야. 하지만 좁은 길을 오르락 내리락 하다보면 땀이 나! 그리고 바닥이 미끄러워서 운동화 신어야 함!

Even in the middle of summer, the temperature inside the cave is only 15~18 degrees, so it's super cool! So long sleeves are a must. However, if you go up and down the narrow path, you'll sweat! And the floor is slippery, so you should wear sneakers!
