Hey, friend! I went to Samcheok Hwanseongul Cave, and wow… This is a place like Neverland! You like natural scenery too, right? This is not just amazing, but the scale itself is so huge that I can’t help but be amazed the whole time I look at it. Don’t just imagine a narrow and dark place just because it’s called a cave. This is a truly mysterious space that will make you amazed every time you take a step.

Arrived at Hwanseongul Cave! Overwhelming from the first impression!

The moment I arrived at the entrance, I felt different. Hwanseongul Cave is one of the largest limestone caves in Korea, and it is said to have been formed 500 million years ago! 500 million years? Is this real…? 😲 And the entrance is huge! It feels like a giant natural door. The moment I saw it, I was like “Wow…” And when I went inside, I felt like I was in a completely different world, cut off from the real world.

Admission & Monorail Fee

To get to Hwanseongul Cave, you have to take the monorail or walk. I rode the monorail comfortably, but it was secretly thrilling! It was quite steep, so it felt like a roller coaster, and the surrounding scenery was so expansive that it was fun to look at.

Adult: 7,000 won Teenager: 5,000 won Children: 3,000 won

It would take about 30 minutes to walk without riding the monorail, but it's a bit steep, so I think it would be easier to ride the monorail. Haha If you buy a round trip, you can use it comfortably on the way down, so I highly recommend it!

The mystery of the underground valley and stalactites inside the cave

When you go inside, the inside is incredibly wide, and the ceiling is incredibly high! And the deeper you go inside, the more magnificent the cave becomes, and it's hard to believe that it was truly created by nature.

And there was an underground valley flowing inside the cave, so you could hear the sound of water all the time. Sometimes, water would just fall, and there was also a place like a small waterfall, so it was really amazing! It was naturally cool inside the cave, but because there was water, it didn’t feel humid and was completely comfortable. It would be really healing if you went in the summer!

There were a few places that were particularly impressive,

‘Devil’s Claw’ – This is named as such because it looks like a giant claw is grabbing the floor. The sharp and rough shape makes it look like a real devil is crawling out of a cave!

‘Throne’ – As the name suggests, it is a huge rock formation that looks like a **grand throne (king’s seat) where a king would sit**. It looks like a giant throne created by nature, but the surrounding stalactites and stalagmites are lined up like pillars of a palace, creating an even more mysterious atmosphere.

‘Monk’s Residence’ – This place has a flat floor and naturally formed pillars around it, so it looks like a place where monks actually stayed in the past. It looks even more mysterious when the lights are on, and it felt quiet and sacred.

This place was also so huge that it took quite a while to walk around and see everything. There were a lot of stairs and the course was long, so it felt like I had to exercise a bit. Haha, but I didn’t even realize how hard it was because I was amazed every now and then.

Recommended places to visit nearby!

You came all the way to Samcheok, but it would be a shame to only see Hwanseongul Cave, right? There are many places to visit nearby!

Daegumgul Cave

It is a cave located next to Hwanseongul Cave, but you can only enter by taking the monorail. The interior feels completely secretive and is incredibly mysterious!

Samcheok Beach & Maengbang Beach

Samcheok has beautiful caves, but the ocean is also a work of art! It is perfect to go see the ocean after seeing Hwanseongul Cave. The sand is also fine, and it is popular as a beach in the summer.

Samcheok Marine Cable Car

It is a cable car that crosses the ocean, connecting Samcheok Port and Jangho Port. The view from the cable car down to the ocean is amazing!

Chuam Candlestick Rock

It is famous as a sunrise spot on the East Coast, and the strangely shaped rocks rising above the ocean are amazing. I heard that the sunrise seen here is also amazing, so I am thinking of going at dawn next time!

Hwanseongul Cave, a must-visit Samcheok travel destination!

To be honest, I wasn't really looking forward to exploring the cave, but it was a whole new world when I actually went there. The scale is extraordinary, and the interior is so mysterious that there are many places to take pictures, and I was amazed the whole time I was walking. Plus, the inside of the cave is cool, so it's perfect for escaping the heat in the summer!
