오늘 국립중앙박물관에서 열린 고려청자 특별전을 보고 왔어. 너도 알다시피 나는 예전부터 고려청자의 아름다움에 관심이 많았잖아. 이번 전시는 고려시대의 청자 문화와 예술성을 한눈에 볼 수 있는 아주 좋은 기회였어.
I went to see the Goryeo Celadon Special Exhibition held at the National Museum of Korea today. As you know, I have always been interested in the beauty of Goryeo Celadon. This exhibition was a great opportunity to see the Goryeo Dynasty’s celadon culture and artistry at a glance.
이번 전시는 "푸른 세상을 빚다, 고려 상형청자"라는 주제로 진행되고 있었어.
The theme of this exhibition was “Creating a Blue World, Goryeo Hieroglyphic Celadon.”

전시장에 들어서자마자 조명 아래 빛나는 청자 작품들이 한눈에 들어왔어. 고려청자는 은은한 비취색이 특징인데, 실제로 보니 사진으로 보는 것보다 훨씬 더 신비롭고 우아한 분위기를 자아내더라.
As soon as I entered the exhibition hall, the celadon pieces shining under the lights caught my eye. Goryeo celadon is characterized by its soft jade color, and in person, it evokes a much more mysterious and elegant atmosphere than it does in the photo.
고려청자는 크게 상감청자와 순청자로 나뉘는데, 특히 상감청자의 정교한 문양이 너무 인상적이었어. 국보급 청자들도 전시되어 있었는데, 그중에서도 입구에 있던 ‘청자 어룡모양 주자’가 눈길을 끌었어. 물고기와 용이 결합된 상상의 돌물 어룡을 형상화한 도자기로 우아하면서도 화려하고 섬세한 아름다움을 자랑했어.
Goryeo celadon is largely divided into inlaid celadon and pure celadon, and the elaborate patterns of the inlaid celadon were particularly impressive. National treasure-level celadon was also on display, and among them, the ‘celadon dragon-shaped ewer’ at the entrance caught my eye. It was a ceramic that symbolized an imaginary stone dragon combining a fish and a dragon, and it boasted an elegant, splendid, and delicate beauty.
전시에서는 고려청자의 제작 과정도 상세히 설명하고 있었어. 흙을 빚어 형태를 만들고 유약을 발라 가마에서 구워내는 과정이 얼마나 정교하고 세밀한지 알 수 있었어. 특히, 고려청자의 대표적인 기법인 상감 기법은 무늬를 새긴 후 다른 색 흙을 메워 넣는 방식인데, 이를 통해 다양한 문양을 표현할 수 있었어. 고려시대 장인들의 놀라운 기술력과 창의성이 그대로 느껴지더라.
he exhibition also explained in detail the production process of Goryeo celadon. I could see how elaborate and detailed the process of molding clay, forming a shape, applying glaze, and firing it in a kiln was. In particular, the inlay technique, a representative technique of Goryeo celadon, is a method of carving a pattern and then filling it with different colored clay, which allowed for the expression of various patterns. I could feel the incredible skills and creativity of the craftsmen of the Goryeo Dynasty.
또한, 청자의 용도와 쓰임새에 대한 설명도 흥미로웠어. 왕실과 귀족들이 사용했던 고급 청자뿐만 아니라, 서민들도 사용할 수 있는 실용적인 청자도 전시되어 있었어. 특히 연꽃 모양의 향로와 잔잔한 곡선이 돋보이는 청자 잔들이 인상적이었어. 이런 도자기들을 사용했던 고려 사람들의 생활을 상상해 보니 그 시대의 문화가 더욱 생생하게 다가왔어.
Also, the explanation of the purpose and use of celadon was interesting. In addition to the high-quality celadon used by the royal family and nobles, practical celadon that could be used by commoners was also on display. In particular, the lotus-shaped incense burner and the celadon cups with their gentle curves were impressive. When I imagined the lives of the Goryeo people who used these ceramics, the culture of that era came to me even more vividly.
전시를 보면서 고려청자가 단순한 생활용품이 아니라, 하나의 예술 작품이었음을 다시 한번 깨달았어. 고려청자는 조선 시대의 백자와는 또 다른 매력이 있어서 볼수록 빠져드는 것 같아. 조용하고 우아한 아름다움 속에 담긴 장인 정신이 정말 대단하다고 느껴졌어.
While looking at the exhibition, I realized once again that Goryeo celadon was not just a simple household item, but a work of art. Goryeo celadon has a different charm from the white porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty, and the more I look at it, the more I become absorbed in it. I felt that the craftsmanship contained in its quiet and elegant beauty was truly amazing.
전시 마지막에는 고려청자를 현대적으로 해석한 작품들도 볼 수 있었어. 현대 도예가들이 전통 기법을 활용해 만든 작품들은 전통과 현대가 조화를 이루는 모습이었어. 전통을 유지하면서도 새로운 시도를 하는 모습이 참 인상적이었지.
At the end of the exhibition, I was able to see works that interpreted Goryeo celadon in a modern way. The works made by modern potters using traditional techniques were a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. It was impressive to see them trying something new while maintaining tradition.
